Note 1 - Basis of
Presentation
The accompanying
consolidated financial statements of Unum Group and its
subsidiaries (the Company) have been prepared in accordance with
U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) for interim
financial information and with the instructions to Form 10-Q and
Article 10 of Regulation S-X. Accordingly, they do not include all
of the information and footnotes required by accounting principles
generally accepted in the United States for complete financial
statements. For further information, refer to the consolidated
financial statements and footnotes included in our annual report on
Form 10-K for the year ended December 31, 2009.
In our opinion, all
adjustments (consisting of normal recurring accruals) considered
necessary for a fair presentation have been included. Interim
results are not necessarily indicative of full year
performance.
In connection with our
preparation of the consolidated financial statements, we evaluated
events that occurred subsequent to March 31, 2010, for
recognition or disclosure in our financial statements and notes to
our financial statements.
